Former Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo and physician Tifauzia Tyassuma, better known as Doctor Tifa, are set to stand trial after prosecutors formally transferred their case to the East Jakarta District Court over allegations linked to claims questioning the authenticity of former President Joko Widodo’s university diploma.
The case moved into the prosecution stage after investigators handed over the defendants, case files, and evidence to the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors said the court has been appointed to hear the case, although no trial date has yet been announced.
Prosecutors decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa while awaiting trial. Instead, both defendants are required to report to prosecutors once a week after their legal teams and family members submitted requests guaranteeing their cooperation throughout the judicial process.
Authorities said investigators transferred 714 items of evidence, including documents, mobile phones, flash drives, videos, and other digital materials that prosecutors believe are relevant to the case. The defendants are accused under provisions of Indonesia’s Criminal Code on defamation as well as articles of the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law.
Joko Widodo’s legal team has said the former president is prepared to appear in court if summoned as a witness. Widodo has also stated publicly that he is willing to present his original university diploma before the judges during the proceedings.
